Today in Disney Parks & Resorts History

Anaheim, CA (near Disneyland): August 31, 1964

The Dapper Dans, Disneyland‘s barbershop quartet, sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” in front of more than 4,000 guests and dignataries at the ground-breaking ceremony for the new home for the California Angels.  The $24 Million dollar stadium will be built just a couple of miles east of Disneyland, and will be completed and ready for play during  the 1966 baseball season.

Walt Disney World:  August 31, 1985
Due to advancing Hurricane Elena, the decision is made to close both theme parks at 5 pm.! For safety reasons, resort guests are instructed to return to their individual resorts and remain inside until further notice.
