Disneyland:  July 21, 1954
Construction officially begins on Walt Disney’s new theme park in Anaheim, CA.  (It will open to the public less than one year later!)
 
Walt Disney World:  July 21, 1986
Walt Disney Company CEO Michael Eisner, at a press conference held on the Empress Lilly at Downtown Disney Marketplace, announces plans for a new expansion that will provide a fun, nighttime entertainment district to be called Pleasure Island. (Construction will begin on Pleasure Island in August and officially open in May 1989)
