Kiva is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Kiva works with microfinance institutions on five continents to provide loans to people without access to traditional banking systems. Individuals can lend as little as $25 and one hundred percent of the loan is sent to these microfinance institutions who administer the loans in the field. The loans in the field help some of the world’s poorest of the poor to lift themselves up out of poverty through their own ingenuity and hard work.
If you feel so motivated, please join the group and help spread some bacon-scented pixie dust to make a little change in the world. Sign up for the DISDad team set up by Steve Bratton, and for a limited time Kiva will let you make a $25 loan for free using their funds. Kiva’s loan repayment rate is over 90%, and the repayments go to make new microloans to help more businesses get started.
