I’m participating in friend-of-the-DISDads DragynAlly’s April Blogger challenge. She has provided a list of topics to help encourage bloggers to post more regularly. The first of her suggested topics has encouraged me to dust-off the 10 Questions that we started asking of various DISDads way back in DISDads Podcast Episode 2. I never answered those questions myself on the podcast, so I’m going to take the hot seat here.
1. Where do you live and what do you do for a living?
I live in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. By vocation I’m a trial attorney with the United States Department of Labor. But by avocation I’m a Disney specialist travel planner with Fairytale Journeys.
2. Describe your family.
I’ve been married to my wife, Miriam, for almost 15 years. We have a 10-year-old daughter, Mikaela; and a 6-year-old son, Jonathan.
3. What is your favorite “off-the-beaten-path” location at WDW?
Upstairs at Columbia Harbor House in the Magic Kingdom, at the table with the window that overlooks Haunted Mansion.
4. What is your LEAST favorite place at Walt Disney World?
My kids would probably kill me for this answer, but I have to say the Tomorrowland Speedway. The queue is slow-moving and hot. It reeks of burning rubber and petroleum fumes. Riding the attraction means squeezing myself into the car and being jerked around worse than any roller coaster at Walt Disney World. I’d honestly rather see the Tomorrowland Speedway ripped out and replaced (with just about anything) than see Stitch’s Great Escape get redone.
5. Who is your favorite animated Disney character?
I love Louis, from Meet the Robinson’s.
6. What sound or noise do you love?
My children’s laughter.
7. What sound or noise do you hate?
Police/Fire sirens. My left ear, in particular, is REALLY sensitive to that pitch/volume.
8. What career other than your own would you like to attempt?
Well, I’d love to be able to support myself as a full-time travel agent. But that’s not really a fair answer, because I am “attempting” it. So if I have to choose something else, I’d like to attempt to work in corporate Human Relations. Basically, I’d like to be able to help teach people and companies how to do things right, so that folks like Department of Labor trial attorneys don’t have to come in and “fix” those things for them. It would feel good to have the ability to be pro-active instead of always being reactive to a bad situation.
9. What job would you not like to do?
Anything that would require me to work in a very cold environment on a regular basis. I HATE cold. I don’t so much mind the physical labor of shoveling snow, for example, I just hate that I have to do it in cold weather. And I’ve had to spend time in a food distribution warehouse’s deep freezer for work. I could not handle doing that on a regular basis. The one day I spent in that room, the most I could handle was a couple of hours at a time.
10. If you could be a Disney Cast Member for a year what job would you want to do?
I wouldn’t want to be a high-level executive, because the things that they do take a long time to come to fruition, and I only get a year. So I’m going to go with working the concierge desk at the Polynesian. I love being a “fixer,” making problems go away and adding extra magic to guests’ experience.
