Today in Disney History

Disneyland:  May 13,1992:
Fantasmic!  (an all-new state-of-the-art nighttime fireworks and visual hydrotechnic show) is officially dedicated in Frontierland.  The 22-minute presentation is filled with live actors, water effects, fire effects, music, boats, decorated rafts and projections onto large mist screens and pyrotechnics and completely takes over the Rivers of America, with water’s edge viewing.  A special stage has been added to Tom Sawyer Island where Mickey Mouse plays host and his dreams run wild!  The show features both of Disneyland’s large ships. The Sailing Ship Columbia is featured during the “Peter Pan” sequence where pirates swing from the rigging out over the water, and Peter Pan and Captain Hook sword fight high atop the ship’s rigging.  The Mark Twain is featured in the show’s grand-finale with all three decks covered with famous Disney characters, and special pyrotechnics swirl from the side of the famous steamship.  The show is presented twice nightly throughout the summer months and selected weekeend and holiday periods.  (Based on the enormous popularity at Disneyland, a second Fantasmic! later debuted at Walt Disney World’s Disney-MGM Studios in a specially constructed amphitheatre in 1998.  A third Fantasmic! is set to debut at Tokyo Disneyland’s second park, Tokyo Disney Seas in summer 2010).
