Why is your favorite park your favorite park?

According to this week’s poll, the Magic Kingdom is the favorite WDW park of DISDads by a 2-1 margin (though Epcot did lead early). And EVERYONE’S favorite was either Magic Kingdom or Epcot. That begs the question – why is your favorite WDW park your favorite? What makes it stand out? Use the comments and share your thoughts.

  1. MK is our favorite currently. With 3 DDs 7 and under this is the park that most resonates with their love of princesses / fairies / thrill rides. 🙂
(not to mention, who doesn’t love IASW 🙂 )

  2. Personally, while I do really like the other theme parks at WDW – and this should not truly come as a surprise for many of you who remember my background – at WDW the Magic Kingdom is the closest park to Walt’s original vision, the one that started it all – Disneyland. Sure Epcot is great for many reasons, and the Studios and Animal Kingdom are good for many reasons – but none of those parks have been replicated 4 times around the world in similar fashion to what’s been called the granddaddy of all theme parks – Disneyland. I know I’ve harped on this a lot before, but it really is true. Walt was a genius on so many levels, and his inspired little theme park built on former orange groves in the heart of Anaheim, CA led to an amusement revolution – as well as an family entertainment dynasty. The Magic Kingdom replays that out very well on the East Coast. It is the most fitting place for the fab 5, the princesses, or Peter Pan, and so many of the other fairy tale characters in the Disney pantheon to be found. Seven realms of fantasy all rolled into one. The little plaques above the tunnels that take you from the “theatre lobby” into the “theatre” itself that opens up onto turn-of-the-(last)-century Main Street, U.S.A. really are so very fitting… “Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy”.

Walt Disney himself said it so well when dedicating Disneyland on opening day … “To all who come to this happy place: -Welcome- Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past … and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America … with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” – Walt Disney, July 17, 1955

When dedicating the Magic Kingdom at the opening of Walt Disney World, his brother Roy also spoke quite well on behalf the new park and “Vacation Kingdom”… “Walt Disney World® is a tribute to the philosophy and life of Walter Elias Disney. and to the talents, the dedication, and the loyalty of the entire Disney organization that made Walt Disney’s dream come true. May Walt Disney World bring Joy and Inspiration and New Knowledge to all who come to this happy place. a Magic Kingdom where the young at heart of all ages can laugh and play and learn-together. Dedicated this 25th day of October, 1971”. — Roy Disney

  3. I voted for Epcot. If there are two things my family loves, it’s cool sci-fi futuristic gadgety type stuff, and travel. MK is classic Disney, and I love it too. But Epcot has my favorite rides and is just up my alley in terms of interests. I love being able to spend a day doing thrill rides and feeding the science geek in me, and then spending another day visiting different cultures. And I can’t wait to see the Kim Possible spy missions, too.

  4. Epcot, because, well, our greatest Disney memories are there. Soarin’ and Test Track is your families favorite rides, all things considered, and we were chosen as the family of the day when we were down there a few years ago – quite a remarkable experience!

    That, and the beer.
