Today in Disney History

Disneyland:  August 11, 1955
Less than a month since Walt Disney opened Disneyland to the public, US Vice President Richard Nixon and his wife, Pat, and their two daughters Tricia & Julie visit the park for the very first time.  The Vice President is presented with the “Key to City Hall” and meets actor Davy Crockett himself, actor Fess Parker. The Nixons tour the park extensively, enjoying such attractions as the Jungle Cruise, the Mark Twain Riverboat along the Rivers of America, Rocket to the Moon, Autopia, and the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Exhibit.  Later in the day Nixon says of Disneyland, “It’s a paradise for children and for grownups, too.  I don’t know when I’ve had so much fun.”
