Which 2012 Summer Family Movies are you looking forward to?

It’s time to start taking our annual look at summer family movies. This summer looks like an interesting mix – a couple of new original animated films (Brave near the beginning of the summer, and ParaNorman at the end); a dose of post-Avengers Superheroes (the beginning of a Spider-Man franchise reboot and the conclusion of the Dark Knight trilogy); several kid-focused sequels (Madagascar, Ice Age, and Wimpy Kid); and a couple of wildcards (Universal’s darker retelling of the Snow White story – after this Spring’s lighter “Mirror, Mirror” and Disney’s own just-plain-strange “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.”). Oh, and don’t forget the Men in Black sequel, coming out 10 years after the last installment in the franchise. So what are you looking forward to seeing? Tell us more about it in the comments.

  1. My wife and I want to see Men in Black. Both kids want to see Brave and the new Madagascar movie (which I could otherwise skip – maybe the grandparents can take them to see that one 🙂 ). And my daughter will probably want to see the Wimpy Kid movie (she’s read all the books). She saw the preview for ParaNorman and thinks she wants to see that too. I’m going to need to look hard at all of the preview stuff I can find on The Amazing Spider-Man. DS is a HUGE Spider-Man fan, but I’m concerned that it will be too intense for him in live action, as opposed to cartoon form.

  2. I really can’t wait to see Brave, and hopes it lives up to the strong female protagonist ideal it seems to portray in the trailers. I’ve got daughters, and having a Princess whose focus is on feats of daring seems like a great idea for strong, independent girls.

  3. I was going to talk about the Avengers as I just saw it Friday. Excellent movie. I’m taking my children to see it during our summer staycation. I voted for Spiderman. Brave looks good and will see it with my children. But, i liked the storyline of Tianna, a woman who works hard outside the home to save money to achieve her dreams.

  4. My family is looking forward to Brave the most. Pixar has yet to disappoint.

    DS17 wants to see MIB3.

Spiderman looks interesting…however I may wait until DVD or 2nd Run Theaters for this one.

I’m interested in the Snow White and the Huntsman take on the Snow White Story.

Madagascar 3, and Ice Age may also be movies we wait for.

  5. I went with MIB3, because I’m pretty excited about that one, but Brave is right there with it. Can’t go wrong with a Pixar movie.
