So…

Looks like we need to clean out the cobwebs and dust bunnies here a bit.  [cough]

What kinds of travel plans (Disney or non-Disney) do you have coming up?  I’ve got a couple that are in various stages of planning.  My daughter’s birthday is coming up, and we offered her a choice between a party or a day trip.  She chose a day trip to the Statue of Liberty.  We’ll also be heading up to New Hampshire at some point to visit my brother and his wife upon the birth of their first child, and I’m also working on a Chicago road trip for the summer.

How about you?

  1. She has chosen…wisely.

We’re going to Houston to visit my aunt & uncle over Easter break. Just watching airfare like a hawk to book it when it’s low enough to tolerate.

Then June/July is the big 2 week drive to Florida. The drive isn’t two weeks – that would be insane.

There will probably be an occasional long weekend here or there, but nothing really planned yet. And of course the cruise that may or may not happen in October.

  2. I hear ya on the airfare. I haven’t seen the rates dropping much at all. Even Southwest seems expensive this year.

And I’m glad you’re not taking 2 weeks to drive to Florida. That would be a lot of “Are we there yet?” questions to endure.

  3. We are headed to the Caribbean for spring break in March with my in-laws. There will be 10 of us total (our 5, FIL, MIL, SIL, Niece & Nephew) going to the Beaches resort. Should be a blast.

Also we are planning a drive up to see my family in Edmonton which would include a few stops on the way. So far we are considering the following:

    Mt. Rushmore
    Buffalo Gap National Grassland
Royal Tyrell Dinosaur Museum in Drumheller (Alberta)
    The Corn Palace
    and of course WALL DRUG!!!

I figure its about a 2000 mile drive one way going through South Dakota so we plan on doing this in 3.5 days (Stops in Mitchell SD, Buffalo WY, Drumheller AB). On the way home if we go direct, its only about 1700 miles so we’ll probably try to do this in 2 days. (stop in Winnipeg)

Still haven’t nailed down timing yet, but we are trying to avoid being gone the first weekend of August since they have GENCON in Indy that weekend and we wanted to take our girls to this. (Both DDs(6 & 7) love Wizards 101)

That’s our plans for now… subject to change.

  4. Now that’s a road trip! Sounds like you guys have some real big adventures coming up.

Gotta love Wall Drug… the South of the Border of the Midwest. I think.

  5. Airline prices are really awful. They’ve definitely impacted our travel plans. I couldn’t find anything that was doable for Spring Break.

At this point, it looks like any travel we do will be car-based and fairly local. We’ll almost certainly do our annual Summer trip to Rochester, MN to visit with Mrs. AJRitz’ family. And that will likely include a weekend in Minneapolis and a trip to the Nickelodeon Universe indoor theme park.

It doesn’t look like I’ll have nearly as much work travel this year as I had last year. That’s a good thing, from the perspective of getting to spend more time with my family. But it does also mean I’ll accumulate fewer frequent flyer miles and fewer hotel reward points that we can use on vacations.

  6. I’ve got some travel plans in the works. Obviously, with baseball season coming up, I’ll be making the drive to Cincinnati as often as the wife will let me. I guess that’s not really travel, but it is an hour and a half away and in another state.

I’ve also got a friend who has recently taken a job with KPMG Accounting firm and is in Dallas for a few months of training. He said they’ve provided him with an apartment and will pay for an airline ticket every 2 weeks, either for him to fly home, or for someone to fly there to visit. He also has some connections to get tickets to certain sporting events, so it looks like I might be flying to down to the Texas Sprint Cup race in April for free!!!!

Our other travel plan is of course, the trip we’re planning to St. Pete Beach and Disney World from Nov 26 – Dec 4.
